Athletic Bilbao’s manager, Ernesto Valverde, has provided some much-needed clarity regarding the future of their promising winger, Nico Williams, amidst ongoing speculation linking him with a move to Barcelona.
Valverde has reassured that Nico is content at Bilbao and remains a key figure in his plans for the team.
It is no secret that Nico has caught the eye of several top European clubs, including Barcelona, and has been the subject of transfer rumours throughout the summer.
However, Valverde’s latest comments suggest that the winger is likely to remain at the Basque club for at least another season.
“I have nothing to say, the market is open. We have players like Nico who are doing well here, but the market is open until the 30th so that we and the rest of the teams canimprove their squads. I see Nico in very good shape,” said Valverde as quoted by SPORT.
“That Nico can continue with us this season is important in terms of our own self-esteem. I don’t know what can happen, but I certainly see it as very good. We have always been very clear in that sense,” he added.
