Newcastle agreed Almiron fee until late demands forced bid to change – Report

The Athletic have shared new details of Miguel Almiron’s proposed move to Charlotte FC, revealing exactly why the deal collapsed earlier today.

They report that Newcastle had reached a verbal agreement with the MLS side, only for the deal to collapse after the player and his agent demanded more money.

As a result, it’s believed Charlotte then lowered their offer to $9million (£7m) to allow for Almiron’s demands, which forced the deal to collapse as Newcastle deemed that figure to be too low.

The Athletic report that Newcastle are prepared to cash in on Almiron at the right price, but have not been actively seeking a sale, with Eddie Howe happy to keep the 30-year-old on Tyneside ahead of the upcoming season.

As the MLS transfer window closes tonight, it seems any move to Charlotte FC or any other American side is now off the cards, with Almiron and his agent’s demands scuppering a return.
