Newcastle get Nottingham Forest – Full details after Carabao Cup draw

Eddie Howe’s Mags will kick off their 2024/25 Carabao Cup campaign with a trip to the City Ground, where they will play Nottingham Forest the week commencing August 26th.

Newcastle reached the quarter-final and final of the competition over the last two seasons, and with no European football to congest fixtures schedules this season, a deep run in either of the domestic cups could be a very realistic prospect for the Magpies.

This draw against Nottingham Forest however, was one of the toughest outcomes available. And will once again frustrate Newcastle fans who saw their side endure a nightmare run of opponents across the Carabao Cup and FA Cup last season, including two games against Manchester City, tense ties against Chelsea and Manchester United.

But Newcastle can perhaps take solace in the fact that since Nottingham Forest’s promotion to the Premier League back in 2022, they have won both league games to take place at the City Ground.

It’s a different story in the league cup however, with Forest getting the better of Newcastle in back-to-back competitions in both the 17/18 and 18/19 editions, including an extra time win at St James’ Park.

Elsewhere in the draw, West Ham will host Bournemouth in the second round’s only other top tier clash, meanwhile Everton and Wolves will host Doncaster and Burnley respectively.

The tie will be played in the week commencing the 26th of August, sandwiched between Newcastle’s Premier League fixtures away to Bournemouth and at home to Tottenham Hotspur.
