There has never been any doubt over Pedri González’s quality during his time at Barcelona.
The Canary Island-based midfielder is one of the best in the business and has created magic on the field whenever called upon for club or country.
One constant worry around Pedri, however, has been his injury record and general fitness, as it has seen the player miss prolonged periods of action at crucial stages in the season.
The current injury
The young midfielder suffered his latest injury on duty for the Spanish national team at Euro 2024 when an unruly challenge by Toni Kroos caught him off guard.
His setback was quickly diagnosed as a grade-two sprain in his left knee, and he was expected to miss the opening matchday of La Liga.
Now, according to reports from AS, the youngster is close to completing a recovery in ‘record time’.

Having suffered his injury in mid-July, he returned to training with the group on Wednesday and is very close to receiving the medical all-clear.
In fact, he could even return to the squad for Barcelona’s game against Valencia this weekend and feature to some capacity on the night.
Far from a complete squad
Pedri’s return to the squad for the league curtain raiser would be a welcome development for Hansi Flick, who is yet to have the complete squad at his disposal at Barcelona.
While the Spaniard could return, the situation around other injured players is not as rosy. Ansu Fati and Frenkie de Jong, who are both training on the sidelines, still have no projected date of return.
Gavi and Ronald Araujo, meanwhile, are recovering from long-term setbacks and will only be available around the mid-season mark.
