Newcastle United have announced that Sandro Tonali will be available for selection on Wednesday 28th August – the night we look set to face Nottingham Forest in the second round of the Carabao Cup.
It was expected that Tonali’s first eligible game back would be our home clash with Spurs on Sunday 1st September, but that has now been brought forward after last night’s cup draw.
Our trip to the City Ground is due to take place the week commencing Monday 26th August, but the Forest tie will almost certainly be played on Wednesday 28th as we are due to travel to Bournemouth on Sunday 25th, meaning there’s little to no chance we’re selected to play in the cup on Tuesday 27th (the night before Tonali’s ban ends).

Newcastle United can announce that Sandro Tonali will return to selection on Wednesday 28th August 2024 following the conclusion of his ten-month ban from competitive football.
The club has received formal confirmation from the Federazione Italiana Giuoco Calcio (FIGC) that the player’s sporting sanction will run up to and including Tuesday 27th August.
The Magpies will travel to Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup second round during the week commencing Monday 26th August (fixture date and time TBC), before hosting Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League at St. James’ Park on Sunday 1st September (kick-off 1:30pm BST).
Hopefully he’s fit and raring to go for our trip to Forest in just under two weeks time, with the all-Premier League clash one of the toughest ties we could’ve got following last night’s draw.
