There aren’t too many players that could improve what Man City already have at their disposal, though Real Madrid’s Rodrygo could certainly be considered to be one such player.
Although not a household name as such at the Santiago Bernabeu, the young Brazilian is, nevertheless, a key component of Carlo Ancelotti’s serial winners.
The arrival of Kylian Mbappe at Los Blancos has apparently seen suggestions that the Spanish giants may have to sell an attacker to balance things out up front, with Football Transfers noting the interest of the current Premier League champions in the 23-year-old.
Romano’s definitive Man City transfer update
Transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano has, however, dismissed suggestions that it will be the Brazilian that has to make way.
“Lots of rumours about Real Madrid guys, but there is zero news on Rodrygo so far,” he said to CaughtOffside for his exclusive Daily Briefing.
“His full focus is on Real Madrid, and there have been no negotiations with other clubs.
Rodrygo doesn’t want to leave Real Madrid and join Man City
“He’s expected to stay at the club and they believe their market is closed also in terms of big players’ exit. They’re not planning for any big sales.
“It’s the same situation with Eder Militao. No players leaving in the final two weeks, the squad is closed.
“Also, they’re still waiting for David Alaba to come back from injury, so selling Militao now would make no sense and be crazy. All quiet at the Santiago Bernabeu… nothing to see here.”

From Pep Guardiola’s point of view, there may well be a need to bring in a replacement for the outgoing Julian Alvarez, though there are other options available to the club including Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze.
As they begin the defence of their Premier League title against Chelsea, City clearly have a lot to ponder in the final couple of weeks of the transfer window.
