Barcelona defensive outcast could make a surprise appearance vs Valencia – report

The future of Clement Lenglet has been in focus this week, with the Barcelona defender strongly linked with a move to Atletico Madrid.

However, Atleti are not in a position to sign Lenglet just yet, as the club must take care of the finances and make enough economic provision to be able to register the Frenchman.

As uncertainty over Lenglet’s future continues, a fresh report from Diario SPORT has offered a rather enlightening take.

Lenglet may feature in squad vs Valencia

Barcelona are set to kickstart their campaign later this evening as they take on Valencia. The club will have the liberty to make last-minute adjustments to the squad, depending on player registrations.

To that end, the report suggests Lenglet could make a dramatic entry into Barcelona’s squad versus Valencia tonight if his future is not resolved by then.

The Frenchman, in fact, could even receive game-time against Valencia, depending on Barcelona’s position and availability of defenders.

It must be noted that Barça are approaching this game without the availability of Ronald Araujo, who is out with a long-term injury while Pau Cubarsi has recently returned from a gruelling Olympic campaign.

Barcelona are also yet to register Inigo Martinez, meaning coach Hansi Flick will have limited options in defence against Valencia.

Barcelona, though, will ideally hope that the future of Lenglet is secured before the Valencia game, as it will enable them to register both Dani Olmo and Inigo Martinez.

The registration of Inigo Martinez, in particular, could go a long way in alleviating Barcelona’s woes in defence.
