Joe Gomez considers Liverpool exit

Joe Gomez was left out of Liverpool’s squad which traveled to face Ipswich Town, and according to Paul Joyce of The Times, the reason was the 27-year-old defender considering his future after “grown up discussions” with the relevant people at the club.

Gomez, currently Liverpool’s longest-serving player, has been a very valuable member of the squad. Under Jurgen Klopp, he played all positions across the back four, as well as a defensive midfielder, and that versatility is believed to have given him a place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad at the Euros this year.

However, he hasn’t been able to land a sure starting spot, either for Liverpool or for England, and he is considering whether the time has come for him to seek regular time elsewhere.

In England, Newcastle United, Aston Villa, Fulham and Chelsea have all expressed interest in Gomez’s services, though his potential availability might catch the attention of Bayern Munich as well, after the Bavarians sold both Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui to Manchester United.

As for Liverpool, they aren’t forcing Gomez out, and should he remain at Anfield past the end of the transfer window, he should be reintegrated into Arne Slot’s squad quickly.
