Saturday will certainly go down as a memorable day for 31-year-old Fabian Hurzeler.
Hurzeler, the Texas-born manager, led Brighton & Hove Albion to a 3-0 road victory over Everton in his English Premier League debut. He is currently the youngest manager in the Premier League this season after moving from German second-tier side St. Pauli this summer.
Karol Mitoma propelled the visiting Seagulls in front after 25 minutes at Goodison Park, finishing off Yankuba Minteh’s cross from the right wing. It was a fast start for the 27-year-old Mitoma, who scored three goals and added four assists in EPL play last season.
Everton had a penalty shout waived away by VAR in the 47th minute and Brighton would take advantage of the opportunity only nine minutes later. Danny Welbeck finished off Mats Wieffer’s pass in the 56th minute to score for the 15th-consecutive season.
The Toffees afternoon went from bad to worse in the 66th minute when veteran defender Ashley Young was sent off.
Simon Adingra added a third and final goal for the Seagulls in the 86th minute, capping off a strong team performance on Merseyside.
Hurzeler won 36 of his 55 matches in charge of St. Pauli and now has started strong in England in the biggest opportunity of his young career to date.
Brighton & Hove Albion will next host Manchester United at the Amex Stadium on August 24.
