Newcastle United talent Sam Alabi has received his first call-up to the England U16 squad following his impressive displays within the club’s Academy.
After arriving from Oldham last summer, the tall yet skilful midfielder has shone within our U16 ranks and even played three times for our U18s over the final few weeks of the 2023/24 season; an impressive feat considering he was just 14-years-old at the time.
The 15-year-old is a powerful box-to-box midfielder with quick feet and a unique profile similar to Paul Pogba. He has a long way to go yet, but there are high hopes for him behind the scenes on Tyneside – and his England call ahead of an upcoming friendly against Italy is proof of that.
Here’s a few clips of the teenager in action, featuring his goal against Middlesbrough’s U16s last week:

Alabi was one of several U15 additions last summer, as the club also brought in Michael Mills from Port Vale, Sam Pinnington from Luton and Southend’s Kacey Wooster before adding CJ Afumuzor from Portsmouth eariler this summer.
