Just as reports emerged in Italy claiming that Barcelona and Juventus had reached an agreement for the transfer of Federico Chiesa, MARCA in Spain is claiming otherwise.
It was stated that Barcelona and Juve had agreed a €12 million deal for Chiesa, who was understood to be signing a 3 + 1 contract worth €4 million per year wages, with €2 million additional in variables.
However, according to MARCA, Barcelona will not sign Chiesa this summer and have ruled out a move for the Italian international.
There are several reasons for this. The first of them refers to ‘Fair Play’. Barcelona has not been able to generate enough space in the wage bill to bring in more players as is being demonstrated by the problems in registering Dani Olmo.

Without ‘Fair Play’ it is impossible to bring in players and that is the case with the Italian for whom a transfer fee of around €12 million plus the player’s wages would have to be paid.
Barça cannot reach these amounts. And one must also bear in mind that the attacking positions are well covered if there are no departures, something that is not foreseen.
Raphinha can play on the left wing, although Hansi Flick is using him more as an inside player, while Ferran Torres and Ansu Fati are also options. The latter is injured, but as soon as he recovers he is a perfectly valid option for that position.
Even Pau Vïctor, another of this season’s signings, can play in that position. For all these reasons, Chiesa has been ruled out.
With only five days left before the window slams shut it will be interesting to see if there are any late movements made by the Catalans.
