Barcelona lodge enquiry for €50 million-rated Bundesliga defender

Barcelona lodge enquiry for €50 million-rated Bundesliga defender

It appears that Barcelona are now actively looking to reinforce their backline with the signing of a new centre-back before the summer transfer window slams shut.

Ronald Araujo is out of action until the end of the year while Andreas Christensen is also set to be sidelined for a couple of months.

Earlier today, it was confirmed that Eric Garcia has also been sidelined with an injury. With Mika Faye and Clement Lenglet no longer at the club, Barcelona have been left short-handed in the centre-back position.

As such, options such as Cristhian Mosquera, Jonathan Tah, and Mario Hermoso are being looked at as possible reinforcements, provided there is Fair Play margin.

Barcelona ask about Mohamed Simakan

Now, Foot Mercato reports that Barcelona have identified RB Leipzig centre-back Mohamed Simakan as a possible transfer target for the centre-back position.

Indeed, the Blaugrana are understood to have made enquiries for the 24-year-old French defender and even validated his profile, indicating concrete interest on their part.

Simakan is a player capable of playing both at centre-back and right-back – two positions that Barcelona seem light at the moment.

Simakan to cost €50 million

However, any move for Simakan will be extremely difficult to pull off for Barcelona as RB Leipzig have set an asking price of €50 million for the defender.

The 24-year-old is contracted with the German outfit until the summer of 2027 and they are under no pressure to part ways with him, especially this late in the transfer window.

Given that Barcelona are already having problems with registering some of their current players, shelling out such a fee on Simakan seems highly improbable.
