Barcelona’s No.10 advises Argentinian prodigy to sign for Sevilla

Ansu Fati’s stint on loan at Brighton and Hove Albion did not quite go as planned as the player did not leave the expected impact on the Premier League-based team last season.

Moving out to a different country, however, did provide benefits in some sense for the youngster as he experienced a different style of football, learnt under a new manager, and even made new friends in the dressing room.

One such youngster Fati linked up with on loan last season was Valentin Barco, a 20-year-old Argentine left-back widely considered to be one of the most talented upcomings in his position.

Fati influenced Barco’s transfer

Earlier this week, Sevilla confirmed that they had reached an agreement with Brighton over the transfer of Barco on a season-long loan deal.

Speaking to Spanish outlet Diario AS in a recent interview, the Argentine star revealed that it was Barcelona’s Fati who convinced him to opt for a move to Los Nervionenses.

“I know the history of Sevilla. I know they are the biggest Europa League winners, a club with a lot of history and an incredible fan base.”

“I spoke to Ansu Fati before I came and I asked him. He told me that this is a very big club that played good football, that proposed. That talk was very positive for me to have taken this decision,” Barco said.

While indeed the Barcelona protege could have lured the youngster to the Catalan lub, the Blaugrana already have quality option in the left-back department – namely Alejandro Balde. Moreover, the club’s finances are still far from stable.

Fati, for his part, is still recovering from an injury he suffered in pre-season and there is no exact date for his return. He has been registered as the team’s number 10 for this season and will thus play a part for Hansi Flick once back to full fitness.
