Fight between U17 FC Nacional and Levski players leaves 3 hospitalised

August 27 – Bulgaria’s Levski Sofia called on the Bulgarian Football Union (BFU) to impose harsh punishments after fighting broke out at end of the match of the U17 match between FC National and Levski.

After the final whistle of the game, which Levski lost 2:1, FC National players attacked Levski players for no apparent reason.

As a result of the attack, three Levski players were left seriously injured. One of the players has a broken nose, another has a cut eyebrow that required five stitches, while a third has major cuts around his mouth.

In their letter to the BFU, Levski said: “We would like to express our indignation at the extremely ugly incident that occurred after the end of the match in the U17 Elite Youth Group between FC National and PFC Levski, played on Sunday, August 25, at Vasil Levski National Sports Academy.

“After the final whistle of the match, in which Levski lost 2:1, for absolutely no reason, the goalkeeper of FC National Stefan Mihailov rushed into the fight and inflicted medium to serious bodily injury on our football player. “In an attempt to protect him, other teammates are also knocked out with excessive aggression. As a result, Alexander Yovchev has a broken nose, Kiril Manchev has a cut eyebrow and five stitches after a hospital visit, and Stoyan Lazarov has a stirred mouth,” Levski continued.

“We insist on a quick and decisive reaction from the BFU and for the strictest punishments for all the aggressors, as well as for the host club. We are ready to refer all competent authorities to the case, because aggression has absolutely no place in football, even less so among teenagers. At Levski Academy, we strive to build good football players, but above all good and valuable people, and any form of such aggression will be pursued by us at the cost of everything.”
