Manchester United are reportedly exploring a deal with Chelsea to sign Raheem Sterling following the forward’s exclusion from the first-team squad at Stamford Bridge at the start of the 2024-25 Premier League season.
Sterling issued a statement through his representatives asking for clarity on his future after being left out of Chelsea’s opening 2-0 defeat at home to Manchester City and has been training away from the first-team squad.
United want any deal to be “on their terms”, according to BBC Sport, which has said the club’s Sporting Director, Dan Ashworth, feels Sterling’s situation could be used to their advantage.

Jadon Sancho: Chelsea, Juventus links
Juventus are interested in Sancho but are reluctant to include an obligation to buy in a loan deal and do not want to pay all of his wages, the outlet said.
Sancho is reportedly paid around £250,000 a week at United, while Sterling is said to earn around £300,000 per week at Chelsea.
Winger Sancho – like Sterling, a former England international – has not featured for United this season and spent the second half of 2023-24 on loan at Borussia Dortmund.
Sterling has played 81 times for Chelsea, including 10 goals and eight assists across 43 appearances in all competitions in 2022-23.
The 29-year-old, who joined the club from City for £50m in July 2022, started Chelsea’s final match of their pre-season US tour against Real Madrid and was used as a substitute in their closing warm-up game at home to Inter Milan.
