According to The Athletic, Newcastle United have switched their attentions away from Chelsea’s Noni Madueke to pursue other options.
Newcastle have held an interest in the 22-year-old – we revealed earlier this month that a loan-to-buy deal had been explored – but he could end up staying at Stamford Bridge after scoring four over the past week.
His stunning hat-trick in Chelsea’s 6-2 win at Wolves on Sunday may have changed Enzo Maresca’s plans and it seems Newcastle are now looking elsewhere.
The Athletic reveal that we’ve watched Nottingham Forest’s Anthony Elanga and have other targets in mind, both UK-based and overseas, but the arrival of a right-winger may depend on departures.
As things stand, it’s believed outgoings are needed to free up funds and space for another winger to sign permanently, whether that’s Miguel Almiron or someone else moving on over the final four days of the window. However, an ‘opportunistic loan signing’ could be looked at if a similar deal to Lewis Hall’s (last summer) emerges.
Eddie Howe is aware of Anthony Gordon’s ability to play down the right, offering Harvey Barnes the chance to play down the left after his impressive cameo on Sunday, but ideally wants another option to improve the right side of our attack.
