Barcelona’s three games so far have only generated positive takeaways as the club sit clear at the top of the table with nine points.
Yet, that does not go on to say that the team has not had its share of hurdles. While the finances plague the club on the outside, injuries have not been kind in any measure either.
The centre-back department, in particular, is in a worrying situation especially with Ronald Araujo and Andreas Christensen both ruled out with long-term injuries.
Eric Garcia, moreover, is currently unavailable due to plantar fasciitis.
Looking for a signing
As revealed in a report by MARCA, Hansi Flick is worried about the team’s defence and is thus pushing for a new centre-back signing in the closing days of the transfer window.
The problem, however, is that the club do not have sufficient space on the financial fair play front to bring in any new names at this point, as evidenced by their recent struggles in registering Dani Olmo.

The club have indeed parted ways with several players in recent weeks from Ilkay Gundogan, Vitor Roque, Mikayil Faye and most recently Alex Valle. However, there is still not enough space on the roster as it stands to accommodate a new defender.
Another hurdle in the matter is that any new signing will only see prominence for four months, for the recovery and registration of Araujo and Christensen will almost certainly relegate him to the bench.
It thus remains to be seen what Flick and Deco finalise on this aspect, especially with a few days remaining on the market.
The new kit deal with Nike and finding a new investor for Barça Vision can go a long way in helping the finances but are unlikely to be completed this month.
