Barcelona offered several players as club look for a defensive midfielder on loan

The injury to Marc Bernal on Tuesday night, which has ruled him out for the season, has shaken things up at FC Barcelona.

Heading into the final few days of the summer window, the Blaugrana had been focusing on signing a left-winger and possibly a centre-back in light of recent injuries.

But with Bernal getting sidelined and the likes of Frenkie de Jong and Gavi also unavailable, Barcelona are now contemplating a late move for a new midfielder, finances permitting.

Several players offered

Indeed, according to journalist Toni Juanmarti, Barcelona are trying to see if it is possible for them to sign a new defensive midfielder on loan before the transfer window slams shut on Friday.

In fact, as per the journalist, several player offers have already arrived on the Catalan giants’ table as they assess their next move.

As mentioned earlier, any late move for a new player is complicated due to Barça’s poor situation with regard to the Fair Play margin.

However, the Blaugrana are analysing possible candidates who can be brought in, if the situation permits.

Barcelona cannot register any replacement signing for Bernal by using the youngster’s long-term injury like they did with the registrations of Dani Olmo and Inigo Martinez as the 17-year-old has a B team contract and is on very low wages.

So any player that might come in would have to be registered by freeing up salary space either by more exits or completing the Nike or Barça Vision deals.

Everything depends on the club’s financial situation and how La Liga views the Fair Play matter.

If there is no room for a new arrival, Flick will rely on Marc Casado until Frenkie de Jong returns from injury. The possibility of turning to Barça Atletic starlet Pau Prim also remains.
