Barcelona shift priority to a midfield signing before deadline day following injury chaos

Barcelona’s injury woes deepened last night as the club lost Marc Bernal to a serious ACL injury during the win over Rayo Vallecano.

The young midfielder’s long-term injury shadowed the club’s narrow win over Rayo, with many expecting the player to be out for months.

This is a serious blow for Barcelona, especially considering the kind of start the young midfielder enjoyed has had and the form he has shown in recent weeks, leading many to even label him as the ideal long-term replacement for Sergio Busquets.

Barcelona to focus on midfield signing

Shortly after Bernal’s injury came to light, Jose Alvarez, speaking to El Chiringuito, has claimed that Barcelona are ‘doing something’ to mend their woes in midfield.

As per Alvarez, the Catalans are exploring the possibility of reinforcing their ranks in the midfield unit.

Barcelona’s main objective is to mitigate the recent loss of Bernal, as well as find a temporary solution for the pivot position.

Hansi Flick noted after the Rayo win that no one in the Barcelona dressing room is happy following Bernal’s injury.

The fact that the Catalans offloaded Ilkay Gundogan, Sergi Roberto and Oriol Romeu this summer does not help their case either.

Alvarez does clarify that a lot could depend on Financial Fair Play regulations, especially considering the fact that Barça have already found it difficult to register players to the squad.

With just days remaining before the transfer market slams to a shut, time is certainly running out for Barcelona as they desperately look for a last-minute midfield reinforcement.
