Even though Barcelona held on to the hopes of making a late move for Juventus winger Federico Chiesa, it appears that the Italian international was not prepared to wait around.

The 26-year-old star, who is out of favour at Juventus, had been linked heavily with Barcelona in recent weeks after the club missed out on Nico Williams.

It was believed that Chiesa wanted to join Barça and would be willing to wait for them, even though the chances of a transfer were looking slim owing to the club’s Fair Play situation.

Chiesa close to Liverpool

Now, though, Federico Chiesa has opted to move on from Barcelona’s interest and sign for Premier League giants Liverpool.

Indeed, according to Fabrizio Romano, Chiesa and Liverpool are very close to reaching an agreement over personal terms on a four-year contract, with the final details being worked upon.

The Reds, who made an initial approach for Chiesa earlier this week, have acted swiftly and are about to close the deal as talks with Juventus are also progressing.

The two clubs are now working to reach an agreement on a transfer fee for Chiesea, who now appears all set to move to England.

With Chiesa seemingly no longer an option and Kingsley Coman attracting strong interest from Saudi Arabia, Barcelona might end the transfer window without signing a new left-winger which had been a top priority all through the summer.

Furthermore, the injury to Marc Bernal has meant that a new midfielder could also be on the agenda for the Catalans but there is simply not much room left on the club’s salary space as things stand.
