Eddie Howe issues Paul Mitchell update – Good news for Newcastle United

Eddie Howe has revealed that he’s “building a really good relationship” with new sporting director Paul Mitchell, offering a reassuring update after fears of a power struggle last month.

After Mitchell arrived in July, Howe commented on the need to set boundaries to ensure he works effectively within the new structure behind the scenes, with Darren Eales admitting that “90%” of Mitchell’s role will be recruitment-based.

However, despite our frustrating wait for a major summer signing and a never-ending Marc Guehi saga, Howe told the press on Tuesday morning that he’s “really happy with how things have been progressing.”

“I’m building a really good relationship with Paul,” he said. “I’m really happy how things have been progressing. It’s not on any one person. We’re trying to get the right end result for the club.”

Mitchell has taken some criticism on social media from Newcastle fans perplexed by our wait for signings, but it’s great news to hear that Howe is building a strong working connection with our new sporting director after fears around how the new dynamic would work just a few weeks ago.

After a slow start to his time on Tyneside, let’s hope Mitchell and Co. (t’s “not on any one person”, as Howe insists) can have a much-needed transfer breakthrough in the next 24 hours.
