Official: Barcelona defensive starlet leaves on loan after contract extension

Alex Valle has left Barcelona to join Scottish giants Celtic on a season-long loan deal, the club have officially confirmed.

The 20-year-old left-back departs from the Catalan capital after renewing his contract until the summer of 2026. It will only be a plain loan deal with no buy option included.

“FC Barcelona and player Álex Valle have reached an agreement to extend his contract until June 30, 2026 , with the option of two more seasons,” the statement from the club read.

“Likewise, FC Barcelona and Celtic Football Club have reached an agreement for the transfer of the defender until June 30, 2025. There is no purchase option.”

This marks a third consecutive loan spell away from Barcelona for Valle, who spent the last season at UD Levante in the Spanish Second Division.

Prior to that, the 20-year-old La Masia prospect had a stint with FC Andorra, where he was for the second half of the 2022/23 season.

Valle took part in pre-season under Hansi Flick this summer and even impressed as a makeshift right-back.

But ultimately, with the likes of Hector Fort and Gerard Martin ahead of him as backup options, Barcelona opted to move him on loan.

Valle’s previous contract stood to expire in 2025 while his release clause had also dropped to €3 million after August 1.

While the club’s statement does not mention it, Valle’s release clause has been increased now, along with his wages, as part of his new deal that will run until 2026.
