Howe responds to three rumours, reveals “huge blow” and Tonali’s post-match boost

Eddie Howe has been discussing Joe Willock’s worrying injury, transfers rumours – both in and out – and Sandro Tonali after Wednesday night’s penalty shootout win at Forest in the Carabao Cup.

On Willock, who was forced off in the first half after scoring our opener, Howe admitted it “doesn’t look good” as we wait to see if his latest issue is anything serious after “feeling a pain in his thigh.”

“It’s a huge blow for him and for us,” said Howe. “He was the scorer of the goal and he looked good. His absence meant we had to reshuffle the midfield which is something we didn’t want to do in that moment at all. We just hope it’s not serious. It doesn’t look good. He’s feeling a pain in his thigh so we’ll have to wait and see how serious it is.”

When asked whether there’ll come a point where we could walk away from a potential £70m deal for Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi, he said: “Of course. I have no updates, I have nothing from today as I’ve been concentrating on the game. But of course yeah (we could walk away). I will find out what is happening.”

Asked about Miguel Almiron’s future amid links to Fulham and the prospect of players leaving before Friday night’s deadlin, Howe said: “I certainly would not want to be losing too many players without replacing them if any. Our squad is not as big as people would expect. So we have to be very careful if one of those players goes.”

On Trippier’s future, he added: “I don’t want to weaken the squad. We are looking to do business the other way and not lose our best players.”

Howe then commented on Sandro Tonali’s special moment with fans after the game (watch it below), feeling the Italian will be “hugely boosted” by the love received on his return. “That embrace with the supporters, there was a lot of emotion coming out from Sandro’s side and of course from the supporters back.
