Eric Garcia was on the verge of a late move to Girona before the defender picked up an injury blow, putting his transfer in doubt.
However, despite the injury, it appears Girona have still maintained contact with Barcelona for the permanent deal to sign Garcia.
It must be noted that Garcia was one of Girona’s top performers last season, building a formidable defensive combination at the back. His performances compelled Girona to shell out €15 million for the Spaniard this summer.
But with just a few days remaining before the transfer market slams to a shut, Girona are facing a race against time to complete the capture of the former Man City defender.
Pere Guardiola on Garcia deal
As uncertainty over the future of Eric Garcia continues, the chairman of Girona’s board of directors, Pere Guardiola, has expressed openness towards the return of the Barcelona defender.

In a recent interaction, Guardiola said (h/t El Chiringuito), “Eric is a name we already had last year. We have a connection beyond footballing matters, but he is a Barça player and in the end, it depends on Barça. It doesn’t depend on us or in this case on Eric.”
The words from Pere Guardiola, who is the brother of legendary Man City coach Pep Guardiola, seem to suggest Girona are still all in on this deal but await resolution from Barcelona.
When asked about the possibility of Garcia’s potential return to Girona, Guardiola replied, “We will see how it goes, there are two days left and we will see.”
“The market is not closed until it ends and we are open to possibilities that can help us a little more or improve the squad. I think we have had a very good market so far,” he concluded.
The coming few days, therefore, could indeed be critical as Barcelona look to finalise the exit of Garcia, despite the club’s ongoing injury woes.
