Despite encountering countless injuries and having their hands tied in the market, FC Barcelona have enjoyed a commendable start to the new season.
The Catalans have won all of their three league matches so far, with their most recent triumph coming against Rayo Vallecano.
Barcelona’s blistering start to the 2024/25 La Liga season has many fans filled with optimism, even though the recent injuries and the lack of transfer activity are a cause for concern.
Toni Kroos’ bold claim about Barcelona
However, despite their early success, former Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos has issued a cautionary note.
Speaking on his podcast (h/t Diario AS), Kroos suggested that Barcelona may struggle to maintain their momentum throughout the season, ultimately finishing third behind both Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.
“There will be a fight for second place where Atletico Madrid will beat Barcelona,” said Kroos, who retired from professional football after the end of Euro 2024 this summer.

Kroos’ statement may not surprise many Barcelona fans as the German star has Real Madrid blood running through his veins.
During his long spell at Santiago Bernabeu, the former Bayern Munich star had featured in 465 competitive matches for the club, securing five Champions League titles in the process.
Apart from predicting Barcelona to finish third, Kroos also backed Real Madrid to win the league this season. “Real Madrid will win the league, I have no doubt,” he said.
Many would feel Kroos’ comments are biased and good reason. However, that does not discount the fact that Barcelona must maintain their level of consistency if they are to successfully reclaim the league title come the end of the season.
