According to talkSPORT, Newcastle United are pushing to complete a deadline day move for Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga.
Alex Crook reports that we’ve reignited our interest in the 22-year-old and are discussing a potential deal worth in excess of £35m for the Swedish international as we look to bring in a new right-winger.
The talkSPORT reporter seems confident that we’re closing in on a deal, stating ‘this one is developing quickly and likely to be done’ in an update on X (Twitter) just moments ago.
The former Man Utd talent tore us apart in Forest’s Boxing Day win at St James’ Park last season and has enjoyed an impressive campaign at the City Ground, bagging five goals and nine assists.
I think this is best taken with a pinch of salt for now. Elanga has bags of pace, can play down both flanks, had a good season last year and has potential, but some will argue that he’s not at the level needed to really elevate our first-team.
If there is truth in this and we are closing in, it’ll be interesting to see what that means for Miguel Almiron.
