Newcastle turn to £20m deadline day deal and Toon target set for Saudi – Reports

It’s deadline day and the first of several transfer updates have emerged, with James Trafford linked again and centre-back ‘target’ Mohamed Simakan on his way to Saudi Arabia.

Starting with Trafford, The Mail report that we are hoping to reach an agreement with Burnley for a deal in the region of £20m after the club had a £16m bid rejected for the England U21 star earlier this month.

Howe is thought to be a big fan of the 21-year-old and it’s emerged that we made checks on him once again last weekend, with talent spotters Paul Mitchell and Andy Howe watching him in action during Burnley’s Championship clash with Sunderland last weekend.

A loan-to-buy deal has been mooted, but it remains to be seen if the Clarets will accept what would be a favourable deal for Newcastle United.

Elsewhere, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that RB Leipzig’s Mohamed Simakan is on his way to Saudi side Al Nassr, with the 24-year-old set for a medical after they agreed a fee last night. Despite Sky Germany’s suggestions that we were ‘exploring’ a deal for the defender, it seems he will not be signed after we pulled out of talks for Marc Guehi.
