Sky Sports have confirmed that Newcastle United are indeed in talks with Nottingham Forest over a deadline day deal for Anthony Elanga.
Keith Downie reports that a fee in excess of £35m has been discussed between the two clubs, with Eddie Howe a ‘big fan’ of the 22-year-old winger we attempted to sign before the PSR deadline in June.
Newcastle have ‘money to spend’ after failing to strike a £70m deal for Marc Guehi this month, but Downie insists that ‘there is still a lot of work to do’ on the deal, with Forest looking for more than the £35m fee suggested.
Elanga bagged five goals and nine assists for Forest last season and played 11 minutes of our Carabao Cup clash at the City Ground on Wednesday night after Nuno Esparito Santo made 10 changes.
Elsewhere, The Mail’s Craig Hope has confirmed that we’ve made an approach, but understands that Forest will only sell if an offer that’s ‘too good to turn down’ arrives in the final five hours of the window.
