Cameron Carter-Vickers, Celtic roll past Rangers for derby victory

Celtic’s domestic dominance over Glasgow rivals Rangers continued Sunday with Cameron Carter-Vickers helping the reigning Scottish league winners to a clean sheet victory.

Brendan Rodgers’ squad scored twice in the first half through finishes from Daizen Mazda and Kyogo Furuhashi before Callum McGregor’s deflected strike gave Celtic a 3-0 victory. Carter-Vickers anchored the Hoops backline again, logging 90 minutes alongside Liam Scales.

Maeda’s right-footed finish in the 17th minute propelled the hosts in front 1-0. Alistair Johnston’s cut-back cross from the right wing found Maeda on the other side of the box, allowing the Japanese midfielder to drill home.

Furuhashi doubled Celtic’s lead before halftime, slotting home from outside of the box. Greg Taylor played a pass to the onrushing forward before Furuhashi drilled a shot into the bottom-right corner.

Rangers tied to get back into the match, but eventually saw Celtic take full advantage of it.

McGregor’s left-footed strike from long range deflected into the far corner for a 3-0 Celtic lead. The goal was an exclamation point on a dominant performance from the reigning champions.

Carter-Vickers will now prepare for hopeful U.S. men’s national team involvement this month.

Celtic returns to league play on September 14 against Hearts.
