Last night, Brazilian media outlet Globo revealed that Newcastle defender Jamal Lewis is expected to sign for Sao Paolo on loan with an option to buy.
Sky Sports’ Keith Downie has now confirmed this on Sunday night, revealing that Lewis has arrived in Brazil to finalise a move, with the left-back out of contract next summer and looking for a new challenge.
Lewis was one of a handful of players on deadline day who have no future at the club yet are still contracted beyond the summer and who we have been looking to move on.
The now 26-year-old was signed for around £15m after beating the likes of Liverpool to his signature, but Lewis has just not lived up to his potential after a promising start to his career at Norwich.
Lewis appeared 26 times for Newcastle in total before he was sent out on loan to Watford last season in the hope that he could recapture his best form and advertise himself for a decent price.
With just one year left on his contract at St James’ Park, Newcastle are hoping to move him on to the Brazilian side and get rid of his wages for good.
