Anna Mariana Casemiro – the wife of the Manchester United midfielder – has issued a non-too-subtle riposte to her husband’s critics, reminding them of his previous success.
Casemiro was dragged off at half-time during yesterday’s humbling 3-0 defeat at home to arch-rivals Liverpool after being at fault for the Merseysiders’ first two goals – both scored by Luis Diaz.
United boss Erik ten Hag opted to bring on 20-year-old Toby Collyer to replace the Brazil international who had also started to attract the ire of the Old Trafford crowd.
Casemiro was signed by United in 2022 after a glittering spell at Real Madrid in which he won three La Liga titles and five Champions League crowns among many individual and collective honours.
And his wife was quick to point that out with a post on Instagram that displayed a picture of his extensive trophy haul.
Ten Hag denied suggestions after the game that Casemiro had left Old Trafford at half-time following his substitution and insisted the 32-year-old would still be an important player for his side this season.
“I met him after the game in the dressing room, so he didn’t leave the stadium at half-time,” Ten Hag said. “Why I subbed him was because we are 2-0 down against an opponent as Liverpool, with their qualities, they are very good.
“We had to take risks because we want to bounce back, then you need players in midfield to cover ground, therefore we put Toby Collyer on the pitch.
“I think that in football everyone has to take responsibility. I’m sure he is a great character and he won everything in his career that you can imagine. I am sure he will keep contributing to our team and Casemiro is always winning so he will be there.”
Anna Mariana posted again this morning, hinting her husband would get through this difficult period.
