Former Sky Sports presenter Richard Keys has claimed that Newcastle United will never become one of the elite clubs in football despite having the richest owners in the world.
Newcastle were hamstrung by PSR earlier this summer as we were effectively forced to sell two of our best young players in Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh. After that, bids were made for Marc Guehi but it was made clear that there would not be the funds to sign a top quality centre-back and right-winger in the same window.
Speaking on beIN Sports, Keys’ co-host Andy Gray made the point that PIF won’t want to wait around 10 years to build a team that can compete and that they want to be allowed to spend £400m-£500m every season like some other clubs.
Keys then fired a bit of a dig at Newcastle, asking the question if the club is actually growing or if the Saudi-backed owners have just ‘lost interest’ in the project because they could be spending on so much more. Watch it below:

It has certainly been a frustrating summer for more than one reason, but after two wins and a draw in the opening three games as well as the next round of the cup, Newcastle are still absolutely miles clear from where were three years ago, and that’s definite growth.
