Simon Jordan claims it’s now boom or bust for Eddie Howe and Saudi PIF – Surely not?

Simon Jordan has claimed that Eddie Howe must improve upon last season’s league finish or will ultimately be sacked by our Saudi owners, who have such huge ambitions for the immediate future.

Having qualified for the Champions League last year, Newcastle were excited yet unprepared for the toll European football was about to take on the team.

A number of key players suffered injuries – the likes of Nick Pope, Sven Botman and Joe Willock hardly even featured in the second half of the season – though Jordan does not have much sympathy for Howe.

The talkSPORT presenter believes that our owners will not be as patient this year, though it’s difficult put the pressure on the head coach when he hasn’t been backed in the transfer market and the majority of the squad is the same if not worse.

Speaking on Howe, Jordan said: “If Newcastle were to have another season like their last, Eddie Howe will not be there at the start of next year. They desperately need to bounce back this season.

“The expectations of the players and the manager have been raised. Last year was very disappointing. For a club that has that financial might behind it with very ambitious owners, they will expect Champions League football again.”

For me, any European finish this year would be a good achievement for Howe considering the lack new centre back or right winger. However, with seven points from our first three games and a win in the Carabao Cup, he’s off to a strong start.
