Eddie Howe and Paul Mitchell reach agreement after summer setbacks – Report

According to The Telegraph, Eddie Howe and Paul Mitchell have settled their differences and are committed to making things work for the good of Newcastle United.

It was well documented earlier in the summer that Howe was thrown off by Amanda Staveley’s exit and the arrival of a new sporting director who’s remit would be “90% transfers” and that feeling was not eased by Mitchell’s failure to land Marc Guehi or Anthony Elanga over the final weeks of a frustrating window.

However, Luke Edwards has revealed that both are ‘determined’ to put any previous issues behind them and push forward with our January transfer plans, with the club expected to be active after a frustrating few months.

A ‘well-placed source’ had this to say to The Telegraph when discussing their relationship: “Both men know where they stand with each other now. There have been no arguments in the last few weeks.

“They have got to know each other and the way they both want to work and whatever issues there have been are behind them.”

It’s believed suggestions that Mitchell could quit have been ‘strenuously denied’ since his big interview last week. Instead, the former Monaco chief will meet with Eddie Howe to identify targets ahead of the winter window and decide whether or not to reignite our interest in Marc Guehi.

The Telegraph feel we are likely to return with a new bid for the centre-back, but a lot will depend on Crystal Palace’s asking price after the Eagles demanded in excess of £70m over the final week of August.

Mitchell has made it clear that they will not overpay for Guehi – or anyone for that matter – and the club will be aware of his dwindling market value if he fails to sign a new deal; which could have less than 18 months to run come January.
