The perfect week for Newcastle United – 5 goals, a stunning assist and plenty of positives

On the pitch, it’s been a brilliant week for a host of our players and a near-perfect international break so far.

Since our 2-1 win over Spurs the Sunday before last, 11 of our lads have been in action and we’ve had positive news on Joe Willock, who is due back very soon after a second scan showed no serious damage to his thigh.

In a week that’s seen Isak score three, Sanusi and Osula find the net for their countries, Tonali return to Italy in style and Gordon shine in a big win for England, here’s a round-up of the international break so far:

Alexander Isak – Our star striker followed his winning strike against Spurs with three goals in two games for Sweden, who beat Azerbaijan 3-1 and Estonia 3-0 in their opening Nations League games. He returns for Sunday’s trip to Wolves in superb form.

Sandro Tonali – Delivered a man of the match display and a stunning assist to help Italy come from 1-0 down to beat France 3-1 on Friday night. His backheel assist was brilliant and he looked superb on the night, showing quality on the ball, a burst of pace and impressive fitness levels to show the Italians what they’ve been missing. Italy are back in action tonight against Israel.

Made some great penetrating runs and was a constant threat in a 2-0 win over Ireland in the Nations League. A big confidence boost for him after a frustrating Euros. Tino Livramento and Nick Pope were unused substitutes, but both will be pleased to be in the squad after missing out over the summer.

Bruno Guimaraes – After a poor qualifying campaign so far, he played just over an hour in Brazil’s vital 1-0 win over Ecuador in World Cup qualifying. Next up for Bruno is a meeting with Miguel Almiron’s Paraguay on Tuesday.
