Eddie Howe’s transfer hint ahead of two crucial windows for Newcastle United

Over the past week, we’ve seen Paul Mitchell address our frustrating summer window and a couple of reports suggesting that plans for January are already underway.

The Telegraph report that Eddie Howe and our new sporting director are focused on working together effectively for the good of Newcastle and already assessing potential targets heading into the New Year.

With that in mind, it’s been interesting to see what Howe had to say on transfers in his last press conference before the international break, where he hinted that our lack of summer spending could give us a “bit more freedom” in the upcoming transfer windows:

Speaking to the media, Howe said: “It was challenging. But by not spending the sums that maybe was expected hopefully, that helps us in future windows. I don’t know as I sit here today, but hopefully that gives us a bit more freedom in the future to be a bit more proactive.”

A renewed bid for Marc Guehi has been suggested after a host of unsuccessful bids over August, but there’s also the small matter of a new right-winger as we wait for a much-needed upgrade on Miguel Almiron and Jacob Murphy.

With no signing in January and limited spending over the summer, where we didn’t see any major arrival following moves for Will Osula and Lloyd Kelly, it feels like there is money to spend and a chance for Paul Mitchell to make his mark in 2025 after a tough start to life on Tyneside.
