He may not be on our TV screens as much these days, but former Match of the Day star Mark Lawrenson has been discussing Newcastle United and Sunday’s trip to Wolves.
Speaking to Paddy Power, Lawrenson admits that we’ve often looked “unconvincing” in our first three games so far this season, but feels it’s a “really, really good” sign that we’ve made a strong start despite performing well below our best.
The former BBC pundit thinks it’s “quite something” if you can play poorly but find ways to win games in the Premier League and backs us to make it 10 points from a possible 12 this weekend, predicting we’ll beat Wolves 2-1 in this Sunday’s 4.30pm kick-off at Molineux.
Lawrenson said: “Newcastle have made a good start but they’ve been unconvincing and I would be of the opinion that that’s a really, really good thing. If you can be unconvincing in this league and still have a good start, it is quite something.
“Wolves have been a little all over the place and I’m not sure about their signings. Newcastle are in the better form so I’ll back them.”
Prediction: Wolves 1-2 Newcastle
Wolves have won just one of their last 13 Premier League games stretching back to last season and have conceded 30 goals in that time. They also lost 6-2 to Chelsea in their only other home games this season, but we have failed to beat them away from home in our last six attempts, with five of those ending all square.
Hopefully that changes for the better this weekend and it’s another win; whether we look good in the process or not.
