Alan Shearer makes Newcastle prediction – One hope and two key factors at Wolves?

Alan Shearer has been looking ahead to Newcastle’s trip to Wolves this afternoon, discussing his hopes heading into the game and two players he think could be key.

Speaking to Metro in his latest Premier League predictions column, our former No.9 is hoping – like other Newcastle fans – to see us ‘get into gear’ and start to up our performance levels, but insists that it is a ‘good sign’ to see us win two and draw one of our opening three games without playing well.

However, in this game he feels the difference could be a recent confidence boost for key attackers Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon, with the Swede scoring three for scoring four in his last three games for club and country, while Gordon will return lifted and closer to ‘full flow’ after back-to-back starts and impressive performances for Lee Carsley’s England.

“Newcastle fans are waiting for the team to get it into gear because after three games, they have two wins and a draw without playing particularly well, which is a good sign,” he said.

“I think with the confidence Isak would’ve picked up from getting his goal for Newcastle and then three for Sweden during the break, plus, the confidence Gordon would’ve picked up from Lee Carsley picking him for England could accelerate the side getting into full flow.

“If those two are on form, I can see Newcastle going to Wolves and getting the three points.”

Howe hinted in his press conference on Friday morning that our away form must be built on a solid defence – as it was during our superb 2022/23 campaign – but we’re facing a Wolves side who shipped six against Chelsea in their last home game and may have too much if Isak and Gordon can find top gear along with Harvey Barnes.
