On 8/10, a few 7s and several 5s – Player ratings from Newcastle’s 2-1 win at Wolves

A precious comeback win for Newcastle United and rare victory at Molineux as Harvey Barnes and Fabian Schar struck in the second half with two superb goals.

Here’s our marks out of 10 and comments on each player involved:

Pope (7.5) – Some important saves kept Newcastle in it before a superb save in stoppage time made sure we got the win. One negative is he still looks poor with ball at his feet.

Livramento (6) – Tucked in a lot in the first half but doesn’t offer too much in an attacking sense. Lost Lemina for the first goal.

Schar (7.5) – Looked assured on his return to the team, capped off with a 20-yard stunner for the equaliser. Some important headers and picked a few nice passes into midfield.

Burn (5) – Uncharacteristically poor performance. Several poor reads in defence and couldn’t handle the movement of Strand Larsen

Hall (5.5) – Wolves attacked him all game and reaped the rewards as all of their main chances came down their right. As always, good in possession but was weak defensively.

Longstaff (5) – Poor ball caused the turnover which led to the opening Wolves goal. Does his best work out of possession but likely to lose his place to Tonali

Guimaraes (6.5) – Not at his influential best but still one of the better players on the day. Always showing for the ball but hasn’t found his rhythm this season

Joelinton (5.5) – Frustrating afternoon for big Joe who was hooked at half time. Picked up a yellow card and never found any fluency despite starting well in the opening exchanges.

Murphy (5)- Early chance to make it 1-0 but was denied by Johnstone. Put in a shift and helped us see out the game but was really lacking in quality, largely anonymous and missed a big chance to slip Gordon behind in the second half.

Gordon (7.5)- Looked rejuvenated after his exploits with England. Vintage run down the left and unlucky to hit the post. Played up top in the 2nd half and pressed well but saw less of the ball. Had the beating…
