Emotional Sandro Tonali pays tribute to four Newcastle United players

Sky Sports have released an exclusive interview with Sandro Tonali following his return from a 10-month ban for breaching gambling rules.

The Italian admitted he was “one person in football” and “one other person in life” when he was going through his addiction issues, revealing how tough it was to almost live separate lives on and off the pitch.

Tonali also discusses how much he’s appreciated the support from the fans and reveals that Joelinton and Bruno Guimaraes spoke to him “ever day during the ban”, also paying tribute to Kieran Trippier and Jamaal Laseclles for their support through such a tough period of his life.

Watch the interview below as the 24-year-old opens up on his life before the ban and the support he’s received, from four Newcastle players in particular:

After an impressive display at Nottingham Forest, cameo appearances against Spurs and Wolves along with two standout displays for Italy over the international break, there’s calls for Tonali to start at Fulham on Saturday and rightly so.

It’s been a rough ride for our £55m man since his big-money arrival from Milan last summer, but he’ll have a huge weight lifted from his shoulders after coming clean on his addiction, looks in great shape and has the quality to have a transformative effect on our midfield.

Hats off to Tonali for fronting up to his issues and also learning English during his time out, with his interview with Sky Sports impressive spoken in a language that was foreign to him 12 months ago.
