Former Barcelona manager Quique Setien has shared that he is still waiting for the full amount Barcelona owe him. Even after four years since his departure, there is still an outstanding payment due.
Setien, who took charge of Barcelona from January to June 2020, spoke during an interview on “El Larguero”, explaining that he has yet to step away from football completely.
Setien first clarified that while he hasn’t officially retired from coaching, he doesn’t currently miss being on the sidelines. However, he left the door open for a possible return if a project excites him.
It must be noted that his most recent managerial role was with Villarreal, a position he held until he was dismissed in September 2023.

Reflecting on his time before joining Barcelona, Setien revealed an interesting twist in his career path. He mentioned that just before signing with Barça, he was close to taking on a managerial role with a team in Egypt.
He had even made preparations to travel there. However, some advised him to hold off, as the opportunity to coach Barcelona might come his way.
Setien recalled doubting his fit for the Catalan club, stating: “I told him, ‘I will not sign for Barcelona. I know I am not the right person for Barcelona,’” as quoted by SPORT.
Despite his initial hesitation, Setien ultimately took the job.
Now, years later, the former Barcelona manager is still dealing with the financial aftermath of his brief tenure. He mentioned that his final payment from the club is due by the end of this month, a situation that has dragged on far longer than expected.
“I still haven’t finished collecting everything. My last payment will come at the end of this month,” he added.
