Juventus started their Champions League campaign with a comfortable 3-1 home victory against PSV.
The Dutch side were coming into this one unbeaten following a marvellous start to their domestic campaign in the Netherlands, but they were outclassed by a new-look Juventus side led by wonderkid Kenan Yildiz.
Thiago Motta is in charge of the Old Lady now, and he couldn’t have wished for an easier night, really, as his charges went into the break 3-0 after goals from Yildiz, Weston McKennie and Nico Gonzalez.
Ismael Saibari scored a consolation for PSV late on, but the away players barely celebrated as it proved to be the last kick of the ball.
Player of the Match
Yildiz became Juventus’ youngest ever scorer in the Champions League, and in quite stunning fashion. He always looked the most likely player to open the scoring and did so in the 21st minute with an unstoppable, curled strike into the top right corner that cannoned in off the post.
Despite being just 19, he already carries himself like a star and took it upon himself to demand the ball in the final third, where he made 14 successful passes.
He won the majority of his duels (6/11), while he also made seven ball recoveries and two interceptions.
A special mention for Gonzalez, too, who earned the same FC Rating as Yildiz, but whose performance didn’t feature that stunning goal.
Worst Player
Joey Veerman completed 39 out of 44 attempted passes for PSV but he was far too safe in his possession which allowed Juve, more often than not, to get back into a unit behind the ball.
He didn’t even attempt a single tackle in the game and only one a single duel, while he made just one interception.
He was taken off around the hour mark.
