Liverpool won their first Champions League game under Arne Slot on Tuesday, emerging as 3-1 winners over Milan at San Siro.
The Dutchman suffered his first loss as boss at the weekend as the Reds were defeated at home by Nottingham Forest in the league, but they quickly bounced back to claim all three points versus the Rossoneri.
Milan actually took the lead relatively early on as Christian Pulisic powered down the right wing before firing a strike across goal into the bottom corner.
It didn’t take long for Liverpool to react, though, and they equalised and took the league before half-time through two set-pieces headed home by Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk, respectively.
The Italian giants didn’t show much in the second half and that allowed Liverpool to eventually claim a third as Dominik Szoboszlai netted from close range.
Player of the Match
Konate didn’t cover himself in glory for Milan’s first goal as he looked unassured in his positioning, but he certainly redeemed himself with a towering header to make it 1-1 from a Trent Alexander-Arnold cross.
The goal was his best contribution to the game, obviously, but as the match progressed he looked more and more commanding.
His distribution from the back was very nearly flawless as he completed 51/55 passes, while he enjoyed 69 touches overall.
He won the majority of his duels (6/11) and aerial duels (3/4) and also made an impressive eight ball recoveries.
Worst Player
Davide Calabria hadn’t played in nearly a month before tonight due to injury and the rustiness certainly showed as he had a torrid time up against the Liverpool front three.
Damningly, he won just one out of seven duels and half of his aerial duels, while he failed to win a single tackle or make a single interception.
He also received a booking for his trouble.
