“I hope to return” – Newcastle star reveals transfer plans when time is up on Tyneside

Newcastle United midfielder Joelinton has revealed his plans to return to Brazil one day, admitting there are a number of Série A he’d like to play for before he hangs up his boots.

Joelinton has become a bit of a cult hero at Newcastle over the last few years with his dramatic rise in form under Eddie Howe which earned him a spot in the Brazilian national team.

The 28-year-old is still a major figure in the first team and is adored by the fans, but in the long-term his hopes are to return to his home country and play for clubs that are close to his heart.

Asked about his future when speaking to UOL, he said: “God willing, one day I hope to return and end my career at Sport (Sport Recife), the club where I started.

“But I also want to play for other clubs in Brazil. São Paulo were a club I followed too, it’s a very big club in our football. And I like Palmeiras a lot too, I have a friend who is a Palmeiras fan, and he says I’m going to play there. They’re two clubs that I really admire. Maybe one day I’ll be able to play for one of them.”

This is not to say he’s already looking for a move away from Newcastle as he clearly still has a lot to give the club after signing a new deal earlier this year, but it seems he has big plans around what he’d like to achieve back in his homeland.

Wherever he decides to play football in the future, no doubt Newcastle supporters will be keeping a close eye on Joelinton until the day he retires.
