According to Fabrizio Romano, Newcastle United are still keen to sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin as the striker’s uncertain contract situation rumbles on at Everton.
Given Callum Wilson’s continued injury troubles, coupled with the fact he’s out of contract next summer, Newcastle may be on the lookout for another striker to compete with Alexander Isak and Will Osula; the young Dane dubbed one for the future.
Like Wilson, Calvert-Lewin is out of contract at the end of the season and, according to Romano, talks are yet to advance over a deal that would stop him from leaving on a free next summer.
As things stand, a cut-price deal could be on offer in 2025 and Romano insists that we are ‘among clubs interested’ after attempting to sign the 27-year-old over the summer. A deal looked close at one stage and Yankuba Minteh was tipped to head in the other direction, but both moves broke down.
Writing in his Daily Briefing column, Romano said: ‘There is nothing concrete or advanced yet in terms of a new Everton contract for Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
‘It’s something they are likely to decide in the next months, no substantial changes now. There’s not only Newcastle among clubs interested – many other clubs are also attentive to his situation at Everton.”
