Newcastle set to sign Vakthang Salia – Report

Newcastle United could be set to land promising Georgian youngster Vakthang Salia, with the 17-year-old closing in on a move to Tyneside ahead of the 2025/26 season.

As reported by Santi Aouna at Foot Mercato, Salia looks set to make the move from Dinamo Tbilisi to Tyneside next season, with a ‘full agreement’ close between the two clubs.

Born in August 2007, the 17-year-old is said to have previously been on the radars of Europe’s elite clubs, including Manchester City and Arsenal. However, this looks to be the first concrete effort to bring the young attacker to the Premier League.

Salia is clearly one for the future and may represent a shift in approach from our recruitment team as Paul Mitchell looks to cast the net wider in our search for some of the top talent from around the globe.

Interestingly, it was at Dinamo Tbilisi that current Napoli winger and EURO 2024 star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia first broke through, and there’s hope that Salia could follow in the 23-year-old’s already giant footsteps in bursting onto the mainstream European footballing scene.

Salia of course won’t be Newcastle’s most recent foray into bringing a much-heralded Georgian to St James’ Park: Eddie Howe’s side were heavily-linked with a move for Valencia keeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, before Newcastle ended their interest in the 23-year-old earlier in the Summer and he agreed to join Liverpool instead.
