Barcelona goalkeeper and first captain Marc-Andre Ter Stegen is ruled out for close to a year after suffering a serious knee injury earlier this month.
Having undergone surgery on the patellar tendon of his right knee, the German international is expected to be sidelined for at least eight to ten months, meaning his season is all but over.
Ter Stegen will also miss Germany’s UEFA Nations League matches in the coming months, having only recently become the first-choice goalkeeper for the national team following Manuel Neuer’s retirement.
Joshua Kimmich shows support for Ter Stegen
Now, Joshua Kimmich, who is the captain of the German national team, has sent out a message of support for Ter Stegen, saying that the Barcelona goalkeeper will be missed in the setup.

“It’s very difficult to judge now. I’ll be completely honest. I don’t know enough about the goalkeeping position. I can’t judge him well enough. Of course, we’ll miss Marc very much,’ Kimmich told BR24 (h/t Mundo Deportivo).
Kimmich took over as Germany captain from former Barcelona midfielder Ilkay Gundogan after the end of the UEFA Euro 2024. The 29-year-old, who is a target for the Catalans, had congratulated Ter Stegen on becoming Die Mannschaft’s No. 1 recently.
Ter Stegen had only recently become the first-choice starter in goal for Germany after years of playing second-fiddle to Manuel Neuer.
As such, the long-term injury comes at a very inopportune moment for the 32-year-old, who, having undergone surgery earlier this week, is hoping to make a comeback before the season ends.
