Pau Victor downplays his big Barcelona moment – “Wish it had come differently”

Pau Victor made an important mark on his career by scoring his first official goal for Barcelona during his debut as a starter. 

However, this personal milestone was overshadowed by a disappointing 4-2 defeat against Osasuna, a result that left the young forward far from satisfied. 

Despite his goal, Victor’s focus was on the team’s overall performance rather than his individual achievement. 

He was quick to downplay his contribution, emphasising that the priority should be improving from the errors made during the match rather than celebrating his moment of glory.

“I don’t care about my goal. I wish it had come in different circumstances. That’s not the important thing in this game,” said the forward as quoted by Mundo Deportivo. 

“I don’t even think about the fact that I scored it because what we have to do is focus on the mistakes we made in order to improve.”

Osasuna were better

Barcelona struggled to find their rhythm in the first half, as Osasuna’s well-executed game plan kept them at bay.

Victor explained that although they adjusted their tactics in the second half and began to gain control, Osasuna’s sharp counterattacks took advantage of Barcelona’s vulnerabilities. 

“We were not comfortable in the first half, they planned the game well and in the second half, we corrected it.

“But when we were better, they were strong at counterattacking and they hurt us with the 3-1,” he noted.

The incident that led to Osasuna’s second goal was also a point of frustration for Victor, who believed a foul should have been called after he was stepped on. 

However, he was clear in stating that the referee’s decision wasn’t to blame for their defeat. Instead, he took accountability, stressing that the team had no room for excuses and needed to address their own…
