Postecoglou keen to build momentum as Tottenham thrash Manchester United

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou praised his team’s “outstanding” performance after they secured a 3-0 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford.

On another day, it could have been six or seven for the visitors and the result is flattering for the hosts.

And the Spurs boss revelled in his side’s antics on the pitch, which made United look like lower-league opposition.

Speaking to BBC Match of the Day after the game, Postecoglou said: “I thought it was an outstanding performance.

“We started the game well, scored a great goal and probably should have had two or three.

“The pressure then overwhelms them, and they get the red card. After that, I thought we controlled the game well. Just an outstanding effort from all the lads.”

“We played some unbelievable football, and you want them to get the rewards.”

The match’s turning point came when Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes was sent off late in the first half for a reckless challenge on James Maddison.

Postecoglou felt the red card was the result of the intense pressure his side had been applying.

He added: “I think it was a consequence of how we were going in the game, just putting enormous pressure on them.

“The amount of chances we were creating, we weren’t letting them get out of their half. It was a strong all-round performance.

“Every game you always want to start well, but it doesn’t always happen.
