Estadi Montilivi hosts Champions League football for the first time

The Estadi Montilivi will host a Champions League fixture for the first time on Wednesday as Feyenoord travel to face Girona.

Both sides suffered defeat on Matchday One, but both will also fancy their chances of claiming their first win in the 2024/25 edition of the competition.

Match Preview

Girona Recent Form

Girona have not been able to replicate the form that saw them qualify for the Champions League last season.

They are without a win in five games, drawing two versus Rayo and Celta in La Liga, losing two against Barcelona in Valencia in La Liga and losing against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

They have scored just two goals in those five fixtures.

Girona Injury News

Girona’s situation hasn’t been helped by some injury concerns, as both Oriol Romeu and Daley Blind were forced off injured against Celta. They’ll be assessed before kick-off but it is unlikely they will feature.

Jastin Garcia and Ricard Artero are also out.

Feyenoord Recent Form

Feyenoord have won just two matches all season – 5-1 versus Zwolle in August and 2-1 against NAC two weeks ago, both in the Eredivisie.

They are unbeaten in the Dutch top flight but have drawn on five occasions.

On Matchday One, they were humbled 4-0 at home by Leverkusen.

Feyenoord Injury News

Unfortunately for Feyenoord, they suffered a big loss in that NAC Breda win as Santiago Gimenez has been ruled out for three months due to a hip injury. Ayase Ueda will deputise up top.

Quilindschy Hartman hasn’t played yet this season but is close to a return from a serious knee injury, but Calvin Stengs and Bart Niewkoop are out until after the October international break.

Girona – Player To Watch
